What is Craniosacral Therapy (CST)?

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system. This system is compromised of membranes and fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. This method also facilitates the movement of fascia (connective tissue) in the body.

What is Fascia?

Fascia (Latin for “band”) is a connective tissue covering found throughout the body including organs, glands, nerves, muscles, blood vessels, brain, and spinal cord. These covering forms a wide connective network throughout the body.

During a session, a trained therapist uses gentle touch to assess and address any imbalances or restrictions in the craniosacral system. The therapist’s hands are placed on different areas of the body, such as the head, spine, and sacrum (the triangular bone at the base of the spine), to feel for any irregularities in the craniosacral rhythm.

The therapy itself is very gentle and non-invasive. The therapist may apply light pressure or hold certain areas to facilitate the release of tension or restrictions.

Craniosacral Therapy is often used as a complementary therapy alongside conventional medical treatments. It can be beneficial for a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Headaches/ Migraine
  • Whiplash
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Chronic pain
  • Stress-related disorders  (PTSD, anxiety, etc.)
  • TMJ (jaw) dysfunction
  • Scoliosis
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Post-surgical Dysfunction
  • Sleep Challenges
  • Ear Infection

Craniosacral Therapy is useful in relieving tension in the connective network and central nervous system that promotes a feeling of well-being by eliminating pain and boosting health and immunity.
